Let’s Create! A 4-Session Paper Mâché Adventure
Ready to get creative and a little bit wild with your art? Step into the world of Picasso and learn about the Cubist art movement in this four-part series where we upcycle basic stuff like foil, tape, egg cartons, and newspaper into one of a kind works of art. If you’re into bold colors, funky shapes and bringing your ideas to life, this is for you!
This isn’t just another craft class, its part art history, part DIY sculpture party and is 100% original.
Session 1: Get Inspired and Build
We kick things off with a crash course in Cubism which is the art of looking at something from ALL the angles. You’ll sketch out your own mask idea, inspired by Picasso’s famous weird and wonderful portraits. Think sideways eyes, zigzag noses and jawlines that defy logic. Then we’ll build the base using our upcycled materials! The stranger, the better.
Session 2: Mâché Mayhem
Time to mix the paste and rip the newspaper. You’ll layer your design piece by piece to build shape, texture and all the cool details that make your mask totally you. It’s hands-on and surprisingly satisfying. Then we will let it dry over night!
Session 3: Let’s Get Loud (with Color)
Once the masks are dry, it’s color time! Grab some paint and go big - neon eyebrows, checkerboard cheeks, rainbow lips? Absolutely. You’ll learn how Cubists used color to tell stories, then go off-script and make something that shouts you.
Session 4: Show-Off Central
We’ll take some time to add finishing details and add a wire hanger to our art so you can easily display it on your wall! You’ll walk out with a super cool piece of wall art and the bragging rights to say, “Yeah, I made that.”
